- The position of your head during sleep: if you sleep with your face on the pillow, the front of the band will be exposed to more pressure from the pillow.
- Your skin type: certain skin types are more sensitive to pressure marks than others.
- The size of your head: The tension of the band will be higher than optimal if the circumference of your head is greater than 24 inches (61 cm).

In order to improve your sleep, Dreem needs to measure your brain activity in real time with the help of 6 EEG sensors. 4 of these sensors are positioned against your forehead. It’s important that the band exerts enough pressure to ensure that the sensors remain in contact with your skin throughout the night.
But not so much pressure that wearing the band is uncomfortable for you.
There are several factors that may have an effect on the headband pressing into your forehead too much:
- The position of your head during sleep. If you sleep face-down on the pillow, pressing the headand into your forehead.
- Certain skin types are more sensitive to pressure marks than others.
- The size of your head. If the circumference of your head is greater than 24 inches (61 cm) the pressure will be less than optimal.
These marks are pressure marks, similar to the pillow marks some sleepers wake up with. Our headbands have passed two irritation and allergic reaction tests with flying colors, in accordance with International Standard 1S0 10993. These tests, generally administered using medical devices have been conducted on every part of the headband that may come into contact with the user’s head during the night.
What to do if pressure marks appear on your forehead
These marks usually disappear after a few minutes. If they persist and/or become bothersome, our recommendation is:
- Try adjusting the front band so that it sits higher up on your forehead. Remember the sensors still need to stay in contact with your skin (and not your hair). The skin here is more elastic so it’s likely that the marks will disappear more quickly.
- Avoid sleeping on your stomach, although it can be difficult to change a sleep habit like this.
- Only wear the headband when your face and hair are clean. If dirt deposits accumulate around the parts of the headband in contact with your skin, you run a greater risk of pressure marks. - If in the extremely rare event that you believe you’ve developed an allergy to the material used in the production of the headband, please contact our support team right away.
Please keep in mind that these marks are only pressure marks. Sure they can be annoying, there is no reason to be seriously concerned by them. It’s extremely unlikely that they would be the result of an allergic reaction to the headband. All the field tests concerning this matter have been conclusive.
