How does the smart alarm work?

Which is the best Sleep stage to wake-up in?

Waking up from your sleep session can be easy depending on your current sleep stage.

During Deep Sleep, your brain ignores all distractions such as light and noises which may disrupt your sleep. If you were to wake up during this phase, you would wake up feeling both tired and lethargic.

As such, it is slightly easier to wake up during Rapid Eye Movement (REM or paradoxical) Sleep. In 90% of cases, waking up in this stage result in being able to remember parts of your dream.

It is also much easier to wake up during a Light Sleep, making you feel alert and refreshed. This is why the smart alarm wakes you up during this stage of your sleep.

The Smart Alarm decision process

For example, let's say you set up your alarm to 7:30 am: the headband will detect the best moment to wake you up depending on the Wake-up window that you selected in your app (5, 15 or 30 minutes before 7:30 am). However, if you remain in a Deep Sleep phase until 7:30 am, your Smart Alarm will act as normal and wake you up at 7:30 am.

The Smart Alarm will be triggered in the following situations:

• When beginning to wake-up during the selected Wake-up window, before starting to fall asleep again.
• You are in Light sleep phase and are about to change sleep phase (deep or paradoxical).
• In all other cases, the Smart Alarm will ring at the set time.

Please note that the Smart Alarm does not have a snooze feature, however, you can interrupt the Alarm. To interrupt the alarm, press the power button once, the alarm will then be automatically postponed for 10 minutes, unless the headband detects that you have fallen back asleep, in which case it will ring sooner.

Please note

• The alarm cannot be set when you are in Relax Mode.
• To ensure that you hear the alarm please set your desired volume beforehand.
• Your Smart Alarm will not ring if the headband is not on your head or if your headband stopped recording.
